Over the years, some models have become real cult favourites. This is certainly the case with the legendary Blaupunkt Hamburg SQM 23 brought out in 1983. This reinterpretation of the popular single-DIN car radio combines the design of the 80s model with new technologies and functions. The result is the Blaupunkt Hamburg SQM 23 DAB.

Its operating concept, simple design and crystal-clear reception contributed significantly to the popularity of the original Hamburg radio. The new edition retains the styling of the original model, but has modern multi-colour LC display lighting. The button labels used to be illuminated with light bulbs, but these have now been replaced by modern and durable warm white LEDs. This lighting can also be activated via the vehicle lighting when the car radio is switched off.

Thanks the Blaupunkt Codem FM RDS tuner and DAB+ digital tuner, first-class reception remains a strength of this radio designed for newer vehicles. The multimedia interfaces for modern Apple® devices and USB mass storage media for playing music or charging mobile phones are a new addition. The new model also supports Bluetooth® audio streaming from apps such as a music player or streaming services such as Spotify on the mobile phone.

Virtual assistants such as Siri, Google or Alexa can be used to access the mobile phone without having to pick it up. Hands-free phone calls are also supported.

A button on the device can be programmed via the menu in order to be able to select an audio source such as USB, Apple iPod or Bluetooth directly. The device's settings are saved permanently, even if the battery is disconnected - although this is no longer necessary thanks to the minimised standby power consumption designed to preserve the battery.

The new Hamburg SQM 23 DAB has a short installation depth - ideal for newer vehicles with shorter installation slots. But it’s not just the radio that will take the user back in time - the packaging has also been elaborately designed and modelled on the original.
